As a rule, the 'Olympic Games' is not something that excites me in the slightest. Every four years it comes and goes, largely without me even noticing.
Even the Sydney 2000 Sydney games didn't raise the slightest tingle until it came time for it to happen.
There is no doubting that there is something special when it comes to your city hosting the event, the whole vibe changes, with the community seeming far more upbeat.
The recent appearance of Sydney Olympic decorated bus 2000 at Port Botany depot, lead me to think back to that wonderful time 21 years go.
It was decorated last year for the 20th anniversary of our games. A couple of train carriages were likewise treated, but that was removed soon after being on display.
By coincidence, over Christmas I scanned some shots of the torch passing through Mascot in the lead up to the main event. As always, for want of anywhere else to put them, I decided to place them on here.
At the time, I was working at the former Burmah service station and had to beg the boss to go out and be part of it.
If anyone knows the name of either person carrying the torch please let me know.

Judging by the photos, it seems that there was a change in the person carrying the torch pretty much outside the Burmah Service Station, near the former railway crossing.
As with all photos in the collection, there is also so much change surrounding the main subject of the photo.
The 'City of Botany Bay' flags, Rent-A-Bomb (thats a really old car, just in case the word raised a red flag), Holden built police cars, heck even Holden cars will decline greatly in coming years.
Back when Holden was still a proud Aussie name.
Support mini-bus passing Mk3 Mercedes 2632 at Mascot shops.
Bus 2632 would go on for another nine years, before being sold to 'Top Dollar Metal Recyclers' for scrap.
Truly a great time to have been in Sydney.
Especially for us bus fans who were treated with buses visiting from all over. :-)

It is worth noting that bus 2000 is being donated to the Sydney Bus Museum at Leichardt once the gas equipment is removed.
